Can We Serve God Cleaning the Bathroom?

Short answer is yes, we can serve God by cleaning our bathrooms.

My pastor Darren Stott recently spoke in a sermon regarding our attitude. Specifically, he raised a thought-provoking, rhetorical question on whether we have ever felt the “case of the Mondays.

He proceeded to point out that our “case of the Mondays,” has to do with an attitude problem. And our attitudes need adjustments.

Have you ever had the case of the Mondays? Mondays where you drag your feet out of bed, pouring yourself an extra shot of coffee? Did it really have anything to do with your energy or just your attitude?

What if we treated everyday of our lives the same? How differently would we perceive our lives?

God highlighted a verse from Romans 12:1-2:

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

I felt as though my current life had no purpose. I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing day in and day out. I became upset at God, for keeping me at my 8-5 job.  I would cry out, “God when is my time? When?” (those who know me know I dream to do ministry full time).

Honestly, God replied. “Your time is NOW.”

Then God delivered me from this “feeling,” of having no purpose. He brought me to this new level of maturity and understanding where we NEED to be careful when we start “feeling,” these things, because often, the enemy uses this to lie to us about our lives. Paul knew this because he says, the culture around us will DRAG US DOWN!

God specifically, wants you to give your ORDINARY life as an OFFERING TO HIM. When we give an offering, God wants us to give an offering with an amazing attitude. 2 Corinthians 9:7 states:

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

I believe in this verse, God is referring to cheerful financial giving just as much as he is referring to our cheerful daily life offering!

Have there been times when you ask your kids to clean up after themselves, and instead of them cleaning up with a bright attitude, they complain and whine? If they could see their purpose in their contribution to maintaining and keeping the household in order, maybe they would understand, right?

Perhaps, by you, cleaning up your bathroom, you are helping to maintain purpose and order in your household? To maintain cleanliness and hygeine? To contribute as wife and mother in your family? Perhaps if we see cleaning the bathroom as serving God, we can acquire a cheerful attitude?

Instead of expecting acknowledgement from your husband/children, know God sees you where you are. Right where you are suppose to be. Even if that’s just cleaning the bathroom…or whatever else it may be.

I hope this post has served and blessed you today.

With God’s Love,

Patty Tower
