Why We Crave Watching SuperHero Movies

The superhero phenomenon in the movie industry seems to almost always be a box office hit. I began to wonder why us, as human beings are drawn to superhero powers and superhero characters…

And then the Holy Spirit dawned an answer on me – we are wired to be attracted to the supernatural. Did you know, we are also wired to have power in our hands, just as Jesus did.

Think about it.

In Mark 16, he says

And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

All of these superhero characters have some form of supernatural powers. For whatever reason, there are Christians out there who believe this kind of supernatural power only exists in movies.

But look at this verse! Jesus says, if we lay hands on the sick, they shall recover! He says we can cast out demons! He says signs and wonders will take place if we only believe.

Do you know how similar we are to these superheros?

Superman, for example, he is ordinary like us…grew up on a farm, works for a newspaper company, kinda nerdy, has an on again, off again girlfriend…

Batman, on the other hand, he is ordinary too, in the sense that he is a wealthy businessman…and we all know of people like that who exist in our world like Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg.

Spiderman, again, totally relatable – traumatized by the death of his uncle, starts out financially poor & broke, yet still manages a complicated love life with Mary Jane.

And there is also another variable which is similar when it comes to their superhero gifts. They were activated at some point in their lives.

Superman’s powers are activated by the sun

Batman’s powers are activated at night when he isn’t distracted by the busyness of his day.

Spiderman got activated when he was bit by a spider!

We have the ability to activate our gifts as God intended if we press into Jesus.

Do you desire these gifts? If so, pray Acts 2:22 over yourself and act on it! When you act on your gifts, this is called authority and faith. Our authority and faith in Jesus brings healings, signs, and wonders.

“Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.”

Activation Prayer: Lord, I desire these gifts which you have appointed to me through Jesus. I declare they will be activated and I will bear witness to these miracles, signs, and wonders before the name of Jesus. I want to be a living testimony through you and I want to declare your glory wherever I walk! In Jesus Name, Amen.

After this, do me a favor and boldly lay your hands on someone – it could be anyone – and pray it in Jesus name. Let me know what happens. Believe in yourself and most importantly, believe in the supernatural power of Jesus.

Through Him, you can be a superhero too.

Love Always,
