Paul in the book of Corinthians was very specific when he said:
“Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.” 1 Cor 14:1
The gifts of the prophetic allows us to be in tune and aligned with God’s heart and will for us all. However, there are specific reasons why God intended for us to operate in this free gift.
1) To Be Aware of How Much Jesus Loves us
Just like there is a specific order to God’s creation, I believe God intentionally ordered the placement of 1 Corinthians 13 regarding LOVE right before He stated we need to desire the gift of prophecy. Love NEVER fails. Before we can even operate with prophetic flow, we need to familiarize ourselves with the love of the Father in order to pour love onto others.
2) To offer Encouragement, Edification, and Comfort
With so much negativity in the world, it’s important we build each other up. God wants us to use prophetic gifts to build up His church! His church is made of you and I. The church is not a building or a facility. When Jesus granted our salvation, He granted us with His Spirit. We are His holy temple; we are His church (1 Cor 6:19)! How do we move forward in our purposes, destinies, or callings if we expose ourselves to darkness? How do we defeat the enemy of anxiety, depression, anger? This is where the prophetic comes in to offer us encouragement in times of trial. Edification in times of weakness. And comfort in times of sadness.
“But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, encouragement, and comfort.” 1 Cor 14:3
3) To Build Value
In my dry season with the Lord, He sure seemed quiet. In the back of my mind, I knew He was there. However, when I was not actively seeking the Lord, I cried out to Him in prayers. I wondered if He heard me. I wondered how much He cared. I wondered if His presence was still with me. When I could not rely on everyday people around me to lift me up, a stranger who knew the voice of the Father, was able to be a vessel and remind me of my value.
When I felt unimportant in performing mundane tasks, when I felt like I failed as a mother, when I felt like I lacked as a wife…God uses other people to speak specific words to me to strengthen my value. Simple words such as “God says you’re a good mother,” on a day where I was drained and took my exhaustion out on my son, God knows exactly what to say.
4) To Access the mysteries to Father’s Heart
Did you know God wants to share with you the deepest secrets of his heart? We have the ability to attain wisdom and knowledge for our own lives without having to rely on ourselves! Often, our own fleshly wisdom can lead to our own detriment! God will give you keys to major decisions in your life, such as pulling out of certain company stocks. Or in another instance, God gave warning to my girlfriend’s non-profit organization to hire more security on an overseas mission trip. God wants you to give you keys to His Kingdom glory, His Heavenly access. There is powerful decision making you can make when you search Him.
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3
“…that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” 1 Col 2:2-3
5) To Lead to Powerful Encounters
Before attending a home prayer gathering, I knew God had something major in store for me, but I had no idea what. I had a deep urgency to be at this event. God guided a lady to place her physical hand on my belly and pray. Within moments, an uncontrollable weep departed from me, which consumed about 10-15 minutes of my breath. My natural words could not explain what it was, but what I could feel was a gratifying release from my spirit and from my body. When I asked her what that was, she replied, “God wants you to pray on it.”
In a natural vision, God showed an image of me, as infant crying in my crib and an overwhelming heaviness of fear which stemmed from physical harm and abuse. This memory was repressed until God offered his healing hand over me and completely healed me from this type of oppression. He said, “I’ve lifted the burden of great fear over your life. Fear no more.” I experienced a heavenly encounter of thanksgiving and praise with Jesus and it could not have been better timing.
What are some key decisions God has revealed to you? Any signs He has prompted or given? How has it changed your life?
When was your last heavenly encounter with Jesus? What was revealed? I would love to hear from you.
I’m praying He will release more of his prophetic keys to you as you read this post. God bless you, my friend!
