Halloween just passed and if you don’t yet know, the spiritual realm gets a little crazy around this time of year. There are serious demonic things that happen in the spiritual realm and this is a time of year where we have to discern and pray as God leads us.
Which brings me to the story of my little Levi, who, in the last 3 years of his life, has taught me quite a bit about the spiritual world since he was born.
I know kids have wild imaginations and love pretend play, however, please know…sometimes what they say isn’t their imagination, but it’s what they see in the spiritual realm. It’s important for me, personally, to make my child aware of what he is seeing, and provide assurance of what he sees is real and not something he drafted in his imagination.
Levi mentioned to me around this time of year he would see witches and bones, and then he would get scared. Knowing that it was around Halloween, I told him he can say the name of Jesus when he gets scared.
A few moments later, he tells me, “When I say Jesus, the witches and bones all come apart and then they go into the sun” (imagine him saying in his little 3 year old voice).
I asked him again if he was sure and without a shadow of a doubt, he repeated himself…”I see Jesus and they all go into the sun, mommy.”
Playing detective, I find my bible and come across this verse:
“When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them? But Jesus turned and rebuked them. ” Luke 9:54-55
I honestly believe my son was witnessing the fire of God coming down from heaven to destroy these demons. What he was seeing was the FIRE coming down after saying the name of Jesus. The name of Jesus has so much power! And here, a little 3 year old can tell you that this is what happens! My little boy now knows his spiritual weapon is to call upon the name of Jesus. And the name of Jesus will rebuke demons.
“He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said:“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-3
Why does Jesus put such emphasis on becoming like little children in our faith? It’s because children have the capability to see heaven here on earth. Children, being so innocent and pure, they see, feel, and know what God feels. They are close to God’s heart. To see and know the God’s heart, we must become childlike in our faith.
I try not to discredit my child when he says he sees something “scary.” As a parent, and especially a mother, we are the first ones our children go to for nurturing, comfort, and protection. In addition, through this experience, I have given him a spiritual warfare weapon. Little Levi knows to yield to the name of Jesus to break off fear and to break of any sort of demonic activity. How cool is that?
And just for fun, I posted a little video of him calling out to Jesus and to pray.
Love you guys, and if you like this post, let me know!
